A Tale Of Two Cities

                                                          A TALE OF TWO CITIES

The contrast of our two stops today could not have been more vastly different.  We started the day in
Gettysburg with "Fore score and seven years ago.....".  There were 51,000 casualties at Gettysburg all suffered during a three day battle.  The hardest hearted person could not help but be moved by the story of what happened during those three days.

It seems like ancient history to to many of us but I had my own epiphany when I realized that this all occurred just 50 years before my own father was born in 1915.

                  HERSHEY
Our second stop of the day was in Hershey, PA.
A view from the window of the keys that Ken locked in the car.
We took a mock tour of the chocolate factory, think "Disney's Small World in little gondolas"  but everyone is making chocolate.  We also took a 90 minute trolley tour of the city of Hershey and learned of the tremendous philanthropy of Milton S. Hershey that continues even today.
The Famous Hershey kiss street lights.

We are spending the night in Hazelton as we were running too late to set up the camper in the Poconos campground.

  1. What an interesting day you had and what a big chocolate bottle you are tippling from, Cathy.

Ken, I am thirty years older than you, yet my Dad was only six years older than yours.

Look forward to your next blog entry.

  2. Your Hershey tour sounds hauntingly like that scene in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"!

  4. Looks like a successful vacation so far. How about some pictures of that camper? I haven't seen that in a long time! I have some fond memories of Peninsula Park and that camper. Glad you were able to dust her off and put her back to use! You are Campers at heart. I'm anxious to see your pictures of the Poconos!

    1. Warmth is not even an issue. We rarely even turn on the little electric heater that we brought for the camper. We'll probably be home by the 18th. Thanks for reading the blog. -Cathy-
